I’m The design challenge

Make the learning connected.

Keep the inquiry open.

Educators need more than a collection of activities. They need a way to connect children’s interests, learning intentions, materials, observation, and what happens next—while leaving room for ideas that emerge in the classroom.

This sample shows that architecture through a possible year overview and one detailed unit. It demonstrates how a larger curriculum can work without presenting a complete year of written lesson plans.

Inside the sample

A framework.

A unit. The support around it.

01 · Scope & Sequence

Nine possible inquiry cycles, six recurring learning standards, and examples of evidence. A flexible sequence rather than a fixed weekly calendar.

02 · Build, Test, Rebuild

Ten connected invitations with materials, prompts, observation opportunities, and ways to revisit children’s thinking.

03 · Observation to Next Step

A printable documentation tool and fictional worked example distinguish what happened from an adult’s interpretation.

04 · Access & Family Connection

Participation options, responsive extensions, and an English/Spanish family invitation support different ways of engaging.

Design decisions

Purpose before the worksheet.

Plan for revisiting.

Children return to an idea with new materials, constraints, or representations rather than completing unrelated products.

Observe with care.

Concrete records and child explanations inform the next invitation. One observation does not become a developmental label.

Support the educator.

Prompts, examples, participation options, and family communication make the framework usable in practice.
